Lead Designer: Ian Bader, Henry Cobb
Area: 310,000 ft² / 29,000 m² academic building with classrooms, faculty offices, laboratories, conference center, auditorium, library, research and study spaces
The calm, symmetrical and deliberate exterior of the Gateway to the Health Sciences building is balanced with energetic and colorful details.
The building wraps around the gym which acts as the school’s atrium.
A colonade along the building’s main facade adjusts the building scale from institutional to residential. It allows access to a utilities tunnel beneath, and is illuminated by a brightly colored mural designed by the artist Sarah Morris.
Throughout the school, each wall is distinguished by unique patterns. The playful tiles in the cafeteria are colored in condiment colors.
A cutting edge auditorium gives the students access to a performance space with exceptional accoustics and lighting.
All construction was laid out to the rigorus standards of the NY School Costruction authority.
