The restoration of the Orion theater and preservation of the Lifschitz building anchor the diverse urbanism that characterizes the Orion Complex. A central courtyard directs the circulation through and around the project’s focal points.
The project fully restores the much-loved Orion Theater to its original condition, reviving a cultural icon of intimate scale.
The curved courtyard expresses deference to the historic Lifschitz building and its layered tradition of transformation. The podium also adds 3000 square meters of school space to the site.
The venerable Lifschitz institution benefits from renewed and expanded educational facilities as well as an improved library with clerestory windows. Students also enjoy a generous outdoor space.
The pedestrian passageway between Hillel and Shamai Streets is widened, extending the commercial facade along its length, and providing an at-grade entrance to the hotel to the east.
The project’s prominent cultural landmarks and architectural refinement create an elegant backdrop for the history and energy of Jerusalem today, forming an ideal framework for its educational, commercial, and residential uses.
