Including 210,000 sf new ambulatory care facility, renovation of 80,000 sf inpatient facility, 45,000 sf Critical Care Unit.
The Bellevue Hospital Ambulatory Facility is the emblematic heart of Bellevue. Ten thousand visitors pass through the expansion daily, enjoying the spatially and symbolically generous relationship between the new and preserved buildings.
As they enter beneath a sheltering overhang and pass through transparent glass entrances, the visitors encounter an axial view of the original monumental entrance portal.
The essential dialectic proposition of the design, the conjunction of the sweeping, curved balconies of the new building and the handsome historic brickwork, meet in the natural light.
The updated facility augments the hospital’s commitment to the continuity of care, vitality and enthusiasm, converting the venerable NYC institution into an advanced medical campus.
It provides easy access and functional flexibility, with floors divided into public, service, and clinical zones. The public waiting areas are arrayed along the curved galleria that optimizes programmatic flexibility and promotes efficiency.
